The basics
Is it the official SoundCloud app?
No. It is an independent open-source (MIT) client for SoundCloud, not made by SoundCloud. It works with your own SoundCloud account.
About the project Is it free? Are there ads?
Free, and there are no ads in the app. STAR is an optional paid pass that pays for the servers.
What STAR gives Do I need a SoundCloud account?
Yes, for streaming, search and likes. You sign in on SoundCloud's own page in the browser, or by QR code from the Android app. Without signing in you only get the offline library: downloaded tracks and your own files.
How to sign in Which languages does the app have?
Four: English, Русский, Türkçe and 한국어. SoundWave can be limited to any of 12 languages.

Safety
Is it safe?
The code is open, so anyone can check it on GitHub. You type your password only on SoundCloud's own page in the browser; the app never sees it. Download files only from this site or the project's GitHub.
About safety Windows or my antivirus flags the file
A false positive: the files are not signed with a paid certificate. In the Windows dialog, click "More info", then "Run anyway". You can check the file against the SHA-256 on the download page.

Where it runs
Does it work in Russia?
Yes. It works in Russia, nothing to set up. Server status is on the status page.
Server status Which systems does it run on?
Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), macOS on Apple and Intel chips, Linux as deb, rpm, AppImage, Flatpak and AUR. The Download button picks the right file for you.
Download Is there a phone version?
Android: yes, the project's own app (Android 8.0+, APK, not on Google Play). Likes and STAR are shared with your computer, and you sign in by QR. iPhone: in development, it will install through SideStore.

What is SoundWave?
A free, endless radio that learns from your likes, full plays and skips. If it says "Your wave is still warming up", like a few tracks and press "Refresh".
About SoundWave Can I listen without internet?
Yes. Use "Save offline", "Download all likes" or "Download" on a playlist, and it all plays from Offline. Your own mp3 and flac files go under "My files".
Listening offline Are there lyrics and an equalizer?
Yes, both are free. Lyrics follow the song word by word, and a click on a line seeks the track. The equalizer has 10 bands and 11 presets.
Lyrics Do I need STAR, and what does it give?
No, it is optional. STAR plays full tracks instead of 30-second previews and adds HQ sound, fast STAR servers, sync priority for likes and playlists, and a STAR badge. Everything else is free for everyone.

Why does a track play only 30 seconds?
For that track SoundCloud serves only a preview. STAR plays the full version of such tracks. If a track is removed or locked in your country, look for another upload.
What to do A track is slow to load or stuck at 1%
The app downloads the whole track first, then plays it, so audio never stutters. The percent on the cover is that download. Wait a minute or two and run "Network check" in Settings.
